Personal informatin storage is currently at a transistion. We are just starting to enter the all digital era, which will have a profound impact on how we store our digital information. Average people don’t think about if they will be able to accessed the digital photos in 2056 or even 2094. but that is an issue with digital storage.
While current archiving technology is digital, technology has always played a role in information storage. From paper to magnetic tape, analog technologies accomplised the same goal of storage, but present different challenges. Most of the technologies were not developed with personal information storage as their main purpose, but were valuable for storage nonetheless.
Future technologies for information storage will certainly revolve around the computer, but instead of storing information on a computer in a person’s house, information will be stored on private companies servers. Free internet services will encourage people to give their information to companies to store, while providing access all across the world.
People will always rely on technology to assist them in saving their personal information for acess in the future. Attitudes towards personal information may change, but the need to save valuable information will still be a concern for average people.
